The Getaway

In order to blog, you really have to be in the mood. In the mood meaning in a positive mood. I wouldn’t say that I am today, but it has been awhile so I want to make an effort.

I fully expected to spend last Saturday evening lounging in my velour pantsuit watching TV, but around 6pm John asked me to come upstairs with him for a minute. When we got up there, he said “ok…now, pack a bag. We are going somewhere for the night. And make sure you pack something to get wet in”. What!?! I had no clue, besides noticing that he kept checking his watch earlier in the evening, like he was expecting something or someone. I threw some things together, including three different bathing suits in order to decide on later….

We ended our drive at “The Osprey Inn” on the Kingston Peninsula. This is not the first time that John has surprised me with a B& B getaway; my recollection would put us at the fifth time he has whisked me away, which includes the winter weekend he proposed after a sleigh ride, on the frozen snow banks of the Saint John River. Yes, he is a good husband. I am working on the good wife part.

The Inn was fantastic - the web site is www.ospreyinn.nb.ca if you want to check it out (we stayed in the Blue Room). The hostess left us strawberries for a chocolate fondue in our room with a mini bottle of champagne, and a little note that said “Happy 15th Anniversary”….she confessed later that she thought John had said on the phone it was the reason we were having the little getaway, but when we got there, she realized we couldn’t possibly be that old! I kept the card to use in 2019!

We capped the evening off with a soak in the hot tub – so relaxing! Thanks again, hon, for the surprise…

My Monday

Glad I finally decided to get my VCR set up to record - that enabled me to watch Corrie Street tonight after getting home from wandering around Rockwood park for 1.5 hours with a bunch of Cubs. Not my thing at all. John and I were supposed to be walking the trails with another couple while the kids did their cub pack thing, but when we got there it was discovered that parental involvement was required. Something to do with a compass and map. As stated...not my thing. Myself and the other wife were the only females there - we followed behind chatting about whatever. Our husbands are on the same shift at work - there is a lot of common ground that we can talk about...we rarely have a shortage of things to chat about. After that, our husbands got into one car to go to the Three Mile for a Union social evening, while the rest of us headed home. I don't think John will be too late, as he works in the morning, but I most likely will be asleep by the time he gets in.

Today was a regular work day; The day did not drag at all. I was even able to fit in a half hour walk for lunch break. I spent a lot of the day getting ticket numbers set up for the upcoming testing season (on underground tanks). I know, very interesting. At least I find it interesting.

I think it is time to get into bed and read for a bit...I set the VCR to record some Sex and the City episodes on Bravo later tonight. The edited episodes on TBS are ok but are not quite the real thing!

A Restless Sleep...

Due to a dream last night involving a world wide banana shortage, rude cashiers, terrorist attacks on grocery stores and being abandoned in a rain storm…and everyone that I called for help either didn’t answer or hung up on me. Odd.

Went to Fredericton for an overnight visit with Pika on Saturday with my sister. We met up with three other friends (C, L & E) at Pika’s and had some Birthday cake in honour of Pika’s 30th. That was the reason for getting together but we shouldn’t need a reason. It was nice to have everyone in the same place. Probably the first time since my wedding last August. We then went to The Blue Door for supper – highly recommended. The plan was to hit the bars but we decided it was too early so we stopped at the liquor store and picked up some wine and headed back to Pika’s. Of course, after awhile, some of us were content to stay and hang out. So, we didn’t paint the town red. Partly my fault because I was one of the ones that felt content hanging out at Pika’s. It was interesting to have her read my tarot cards – if I remember correctly, there were a lot of positive signs in my future – as opposed to my sister and L who got very negative readings (something to do with money and Satan, I think…). There really isn’t a need to go into too much detail about the weekend because 80% of people who read this were there…

I was home on Sunday in time to catch the episodes of Corrie Street that I missed Friday night - stayed home the rest of the day. John made a delicious supper of fettucine noddles with tomatoes sauce, sauteed red peppers and onions and boneless, skinless chicken breast. Thanks, hon!

Egyptian Cotton 300 Thread Count Sheets

What luxury! I bought the sheets at Costco about a month ago and just used them for the first time last night. The crisp snap when I shook the sheets out to put them on the bed told me I was in for a good nights sleep. The little things can make a person so happy!

Reading "In her Shoes" by Jennifer Weiner at the moment. It is about two sisters that seem to have nothing in common...it is being made into a movie with Toni Collette, Cameron Diaz and Shirley MacLain. A good read so far, although not what I expected (meaning better than I expected). I am not good at explaining plot lines so I will leave it at this.

The Secret is Out.........

My Husband was wondering what I was doing online - so I told him about my blog...going to have to watch what I post now!

Oh, weekends go so fast! My weekend started Friday night with having my hair done - I asked my hairdresser for a sexy, tosseled look - and she provided. Too bad my husband wasn't around and I had to go to a bar to hang out for the evening(wink). Met up with my sister and headed to Churchills for a beer and burger with E. and L. Was great chatting and catching up....stopped by E.'s place after for a bit. Won't be her place much longer because she is moving to Halifax soon with her fiancee (well, he is already there). Must have a party before the official move!

Slept in a bit on Saturday but got up in time to catch the Royal Wedding. Love watching that type of thing to catch a glimps of the lesser known Royals (like Prince Edward and Prince Andrew). Then got dolled up to go shopping with my sister - I even managed to do my hair clsoe to what it looked like Friday. My Sister has been looking for coffee tables and finally decided to buy the same set that I have - I had anticipated a day of going from store to store then back again - so glad she decided on that set! Then we hit the mall, where we ran into my Dad having a coffee. I was on the lookout for a new spring coat (found one at Marks Work Warehouse marked down). Also bought a pair of sunglasses at Old Navy. I also need a new purse...no luck yet. I was planning on getting groceries right after shopping but I was beat so I got home and relaxed awhile. Ended up going out again for supper at Vitos with my sister - I had Fettucine Carbonnara which I didn't really like, and a glass of white wine. Stopped by my brothers and Sister-in-law's for a visit after supper. So that was my Saturday!

Sunday - slept in again, although I was planning on going to church - missed it! Husband and SS got home near noon. Had Pika stop by for awhile in the early afternoon for coffee and a chat, then I went out for groceries. The place was packed and of course I ran into a few people I know. Got home about 4:30 and made a casserole for supper. Re-arranged some furniture after.

I am done for the evening!

Return to KVHS....

Pika - dying to hear your comments on this one....

What year was it? 1990 - 1993
What were your favorite bands (performers)? Sting, INXS, Xtreme, GNR, Bon Jovi
What was your favorite outfit? Levi jeans and I had this flowery, cordury shirt in grade 11 that I liked. Only thing, another girl in my class had it and wore it on the same days!
What was up with your hair? Long and Straight on most days - also used to curl is sometimes by wearing foam curlers overnight
Who were your best friends? Hung out with Joanna and Lianne; Usually ate lunch with Big Sister. I didn't really get to know Pika till grade 12 (Modern History Class)
What did you do after school? Watched General Hospital
Where did you work? Had some babysitting gigs
Did you take the bus? Yes
Who did you have a crush on? Jason H, Colin W, Tony L and Jan S.....
Did you fight with your parents? Yes
Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on? Kevin Costner, Daniel Day Lewis, Chris Noth, Patrick Swayze (thinking of pictures from my locker)
Did you smoke cigarettes? No
Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack all day because you were too nervous to find your locker? No
Did you have a 'clique'? Not really
Did you have "The Max" like Zach, Kelly, and Slater? If I knew what "The Max" was....
Admit it, were you popular? No way!
Who did you want to be just like? Didn't have anyone in mind
What did you want to be when you grew up? I don't recall thinking much about it - wanted a decent job and be able to have a nice house and comfortable life - Sounds like I am pretty much there!
Where did you think you'd be at the age you are now? Never thought I would be here! I never saw myself as married before 30 and never thought I would ever be an evil Step-Monster! I probably imagined that I would still be searching for Mr. Right!

It is time to update this thing.....

I know someone reads this blog because my old pal "pika" (that is her MSN name) msn'd me tsk tsking my lack of blog updates. I have signed in a few times intending to update - but have drawn a blank when it got down to the typing part.

Doing a little on line banking and shopping tonight - ordered some clothes from Sears online. I probably will end up returning them; I have been ordering a lot of clothes and sending them back because they do not fit the way I like nor do they look as expected. But, one of these days, I will find something that works!

Saw "The Upside of Anger" last weekend with Big Sister and JM (the other person that reads this blog). If you like Kevin Costner and/or Joan Allen, you must see it. That is all I can say on the subject!

Work has been going well - except I called in sick on Tuesday because I felt I needed a day for just me. A very relaxing day as I slept in a couple of hours. Watched "You've Got Mail" - I bought the DVD awhile back for $10 and hadn't got around to watching. I think the last time I saw that was when it was in the theater (1998). Cute movie! And did some housework (vacuming, dusting, rearranging knick knacks on the mantle and hutch) because I find that a day cannot go by without me being compeled to do so. A little bit of it anyway.

plans for the weekend - getting hair done (going back to blond, one highlight session at a time) after work Friday night. Have some tentative plans to meet up with a couple of friends at Churchills pub afterwards. I have the majority of the weekend to myself as husband and SS are going to be at the in-laws for Friday and Saturday. Husband is assisting with an extracation course (firefighting "stuff") up that way and SS is having a visit with his Nanny. I hope to sleep in on Saturday and I may go to church on Sunday morning. I actually went last Sunday as SS had a reading to do in conjunction with the Baden Powell program (aka cubs). It was the same church that "pika's" sister and husband attends so I didn't feel too out of place. Also, my great-great-great grandparents and one great-uncle are buried in the church yard, and another great uncle and Aunt were married there. There is also a stained glass window dedicated to g-g-g-gparents from 1902 that we sat beside, so....I would like to attend again. Should bring my husband sometime, too (he was working last weekend).

I am sure I will also go shopping with Big Sister on Saturday at some point. I emailed JM today suggesting doing lunch or something but no answer yet - JM, let me know.

Going to sign off now and get ready for bed......
